WAVE DAC/Preamp | ||||
| Description Manley's WAVE unit is a magnificent sounding preamplifier with built in DAC and 4 extra analogue inputs. Offering 4 digital inputs (AES/EBU, SPDIF, Toslink & ST format) plus a new 24 bit 96KHz digital to analogue converter card designed by Fred Forssell. Manley's design team merged this new DAC with an improved tube stage and added two analogue balanced and two unbalanced inputs. Three sets of outputs and a processor loop are also all switchable from the front panel and the unit is supplied with a fully functioning remote control, the first Manley product to feature this. All fascia functions are operable by the remote, including the volume control.
The Manley WAVE is unique. Few products of this type are as at home in a professional Mastering facility as they are as key components in audiophile domestic systems. The WAVE's combination of features and functions came to fruition after analyzing existing systems. Many were at best, functional, lacking elegance in signal flow, operational convenience and synergy. Manley's engineers and designers set out to build something they felt they could use in their own living rooms. Something that could be upgraded as new standards evolved, and something that be easily interfaced with a mixture of balanced, unbalanced and digital connections. The WAVE has 4 digital inputs and 4 analogue inputs as standard. The digital inputs accommodate most current interconnect standards. The analogue inputs allow both balanced and unbalanced connections. The unit usually ships with 2 balanced and 2 unbalanced inputs, but the factory will custom configure a unit for special requirements (such as 4 balanced inputs) In recognition of real life day to day needs, extra input & output facilities are standard. For those who record, or have need of external processing, there is an Insert loop (a term borrowed from pro audio) similar to a tape or processing loop. There is also provision for more than one set of amplifiers/speakers with 3 outputs (2 can be switched, 1 is always on) The WAVE has a stylish (retro-contemporary?) finish, along with an external power supply. The tube analogue section is a new design and was developed to out-perform Manley's previous benchmark, both audibly and in specifications.
